Welcome

Kestrel is a Flag Blue 2006 Beneteau First 36.7 that races and sails out of Bayfield WI. This web site is a resource for her crew, family and friends.

It's time to start thinking about sailboat racing. For 2012 we are raising our game. Anyone in?

First up is Kestrel. For 2012 we will swap the aspin for a poled symmetric. This will give us much better VMG angles and more sail area. We also have a new North 3DL laminated jib for better upwind performance. Rounding out the gear, we have new electronics that measure time to line and starts, and detect lifts and headers on beats.

Kestrel will race in the AIS Spring series, Around the Island distace race, Bayfield race week, and the Bayfield Cup. There is lots of camping and reasonable lodging nearby. Most of you have sailed with us... These races need foul and fair weather gear, a good PDF, gloves, etc. we supply race day food and drink. Anyone making a solid contribution to race week scores a coveted Mt Gay 'red' hat.

New this year is Blue J. She replaces the beloved Jackdaw as the small boat in the fleet. She is a Beneteau First 25.7, and is a most amazing boat. Althought comfortable enough to cruise for a week, she looks like a mini VOR boat and just flys. With a rig as advanced as big K, she is a great training boat. Like K she flys a kite with a pole.

Blue J will race in Thursday and Sunday series at the WYC where she is moored. PHRF 1 fleet. Ideal crew numbers are 4 or 5. We'll keep an updated list off dates we plan on racing.

BE SURE you are registered as crew if you are even thinking about sailing with us this season, it helps us keep every body's contact information in one place. Drop a line via the Contact tab if you are interested.

Post a message, browse the photography, or register to crew in a race. We hope to see you out on the water this season!
